Solas Dance for Life raises €42,000

The Solas Cancer Support Centre Dance for Life took place on Friday 24th of March to a packed house in the Theatre Royal.  21 couples danced on the night and after ten weeks of tuition, rehearsal and preparations they all did themselves proud on the night. The atmosphere was electric with friends and families supporting all the dancers. The show had been missing from the yearly Solas calendar over the last few years and it certainly came back with a bang.

The winning couple were Ciara Kennedy and Michael Moore who danced a mesmerising Waltz on the night. They wowed the audience with their emotional performance and were worthy trophy winners.

Judge Jimmy Lyons praised all the couples for taking to the stage and embracing the challenge of learning a complex routine in such a short time- ‘It must have been nerve racking for all the amateur dancers to learn these dances and perform them with such professionalism in these auspicious surroundings –they should all give themselves a pat on the back for a job well done‘

Tracy McDaid, Manager of the Solas Cancer Support Centre, thanked all the dancers for their huge fundraising efforts over the last three months in raising a staggering €42,000. She went on to acknowledged the contribution that this event makes in supporting the charity : ‘The free support services provided to those affected by cancer would not be possible without events like this. Last year, over 1,000 people used the services provided by the Solas Cancer Support Centre and this is all due to the support we receive from the public. We are really delighted to have RedHat support us this year, RedHat have been superb Corporate Partners over the last number of years and we value their support and friendship.  Our sincere thanks also to Michelle Condon and Michelle Quilty for putting all our dancers through their paces in preparation for the night. Finally a special word of thanks to the wonderful team of Solas Volunteers who made the night possible’.
