Dance Class – Solas and SETU Research Partnership

We are delighted to open registration for our second set of Dance Classes following the amazing success of the April class.

This 10-week class starts on Thursday 28th September from 7pm to 8pm in the SETU Arena. We will host an Introduction Session on Thursday 21st September at 8pm in the Solas Cancer Support Centre.

There is a research element to this class, and you will be asked to take part in a number of questionnaires during the process and an interview by phone after the dance class, to give feedback on the experience. By taking part in the research, you will help Health Care Professionals and associations such as the Solas Cancer Support Centre to understand how to support women following treatment for cancer, as well as help in the creation of interventions to meet the needs of women cancer survivors.

The following criteria apply for participants:

  • Open to women aged 18 to 45 who have a primary lymphoma, leukemia or breast cancer diagnosis.
  • Participants should be at least 6 weeks post treatment (surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy).
  • Have medical clearance to undertake light to moderate exercise.
  • Participants can bring a friend/dance buddy with them- but you do not have to, you are welcome to come along by yourself.

Sinead Ahearne was a participant in the April Dance Classes and spoke of her involvement, “A lovely way to meet people who have had a similar experience with cancer.  You leave all your worries at the door and just have fun. I spent as much time laughing as dancing. I loved every minute of it.”
