Board Retirements
The Solas Cancer Support Centre wishes to acknowledge the retirement from our board of
Dr Paula Calvert and Mr Simon Fahey.
Simon joined our board 5 years ago. During this time he has brought experienced insights and guidance to support the board’s work. Simon’s extensive expertise as a practicing veterinary physician and business owner, his first-hand experience of living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis, and his interest in service user feedback have helped shape the organisation during his tenure with the board. Simon was a member of the Client Services committee for a number of years contributing to developing the services provided to clients.
Paula’s contribution to this organisation could never be captured fully in paragraph, or indeed a book! Paula has served 16 years as a board member during a period which has seen monumental changes to the organisation and to the broader horizon of cancer treatment. Paula’s professional practice as cancer specialist (medical oncologist) has been instrumental to the organisation developing hand in glove with established medical cancer services which has ensured an excellent relationship between clients, healthcare workers and the organisation. This has fostered a mutual trust and understanding between everyone in the community whom we serve. Paula, as she does in every aspect of her life, brings a humanity, empathy and compassion to the functioning of the board. Due to Paula’s influence, these attributes permeate all activities of the Solas Cancer Support Centre to this day which allows the organisation to be listen and hear, and respond to needs of the community.
It is with great heartfelt appreciation on behalf of everyone at the Solas Cancer Support Centre I extend my thanks and best wishes to Paula and Simon. We look forward to their continued input as colleagues.
