Solas Cancer Support Centre supported 964 clients in 2019

In marking World Cancer Day on February 4th the Solas Cancer Support Centre announced that 964 clients were supported by the charity in 2019. This figure marks an unprecedented 25% growth in client numbers from the previous year. The orange balloons reflect the 2018 client numbers and the green balloons signify the increase of the additional 255 clients in 2019.

Chair Dee Jacques explains what this means to the charity: ‘When we reflect on our work during 2019 we are extremely proud to have supported so many families in Waterford and the South East who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis. 255 extra clients engaged with the service in 2019 and the Board of Trustees are particularly pleased to see the growth of the West Waterford service based in Dungarvan’.

‘This increase in client numbers is a positive reflection on the standard and range of services we offer our clients. People are often surprised to hear that our services are free and we thank our donors and fundraisers in supporting the charity each and every year. In 2019 the running costs of the service was over €650,000 and we simply could not operate without the financial support of the community as we do not receive any Government funding. As client numbers continue to grow we are making plans for 2020 to raise additional funds to meet the growing demand’.

The free support services are available to those affected by cancer, their families and carers in the Waterford and the South East. A wide range of services are available including Reflexology, Massage, Reiki, Counselling, Meditation, Yoga and Art Psychotherapy for children and adolescents.
